Deep in the heart of Yaba, Nigeria, Semicolon seeks to re-tell the narrative of the innovative Nigerian spirit by equipping young people with technology and problem-solving skills. A core part of this mission is its 12-month program that cuts across design thinking, software engineering, and business management.
In less than three years, Semicolon has gone from handling two 40-strong cohorts in a year to concurrently maintaining up to six. A considerable part of this scale owes a lot to the work done on LAMP, a learning management system we designed and built in-house.
Project Goals: We set out to create a robust product with straightforward tools to manage and support thousands of program applications. We also carried out proto-research to validate some class management and enterprise recruiting use cases.
Assumptions:
- The admissions department will receive thousands of applications.
- We can only support a <20% admissions rate yearly.
- A good number of applications will come from out-of-state/country.
Interesting to note;
Asides from leading design, I was also a Design Thinking facilitator and key in onboarding new students (Natives). I took great pride and joy in teaching design classes and as a co-founder of Semicolon.
My Role
As co-founder and Design Director at Semicolon, I assumed leadership responsibility of a team that cut across brand, marketing, and product. I was also involved in actual design contributions, often jumping in to flesh out user journey maps, mid/high-fidelity prototypes, and design system components.
